You are right. He wasn't a politician. But he wasn’t a tent-maker, accountant or airline pilot either. Are we saying that carpentry is the only career path open to Christians? All through scripture God made it clear that he was the God of the underdog, and Jesus was desperate to show that his kingdom was ‘not of this world’ so the least likely guise for the Messiah to take was that of someone holding formal political power. But it doesn't mean that we should step back from our Genesis 1 calling into leadership in public life. For example, Jesus affirms Pilate’s authority, but reminds him where it comes from.

We have seen an incredible response to our campaigns, most specifically the SHOW UP campaign. Churches across the country which were previously resistant to political discussion and discipleship have opened their doors because they can see that this is a kingdom agenda, not a partisan agenda. We are intentionally making the biblical case for involvement as we believe that should be the root of all our action. The church’s theology hopefully then seeps out into its mission. This is politics not just as a pragmatic ‘sorting out the world’, but the response to a holy calling.

Yes. All over the country they do exactly that. It’s not about finding some mushy amorphous centre ground. It’s not about pretending that we all agree and playing nice. It’s about modelling good disagreement. When people come together in person, intentionally build relationship, and pray together, it’s amazing how understanding grows.

Folks appreciate that others will be called to a different mission-field or tribe from them. Every one of those areas is in need of salt and light, and there will be things there for us to learn too.
